Getting Started. 4 Steps to Success!
All applicants applying for a full-time entry level position with the USPS must take and pass the Virtual Entry Assessment (VEA). Remember, the higher you score on the official assessment, the sooner and more likely you are to be hired. We have provided a 4 step process to get you prepared to succeed:
Step 1: Preparing For Your Virtual Entry Assessment - This practice Virtual Entry Assessment, formerly known as the Personality Assessment, will help you get familiar with the types of questions that will be asked on the official Virtual Entry Assessment. Consistency is key!
Step 2: Virtual Skills Training - This section will allow you to familiarize yourself with the skills needed to perform the Mail Carrier duties. Each skill will have 4 levels that must be completed. Each level will increase in difficulty, so once you pass Level 1, you will be allowed access to Level 2.
Step 3: Virtual Skills Exam Simulator- These timed, skill based, assessments will simulate the 4 skill sets needed to succeed as a USPS employee. These assessments may be taken an UNLIMITED amount of times until you are ready to apply for an entry-level position.
Step 4: Applying For a Position: Once you are comfortable with the VEA 474 and skill training, move forward with application process. Use the resources available in this section to help guide you through the application process or give one of our customer care specialists a call.

Virtual Entry Assessment 474 (VEA 474)
In order to be considered for an entry-level Mail Carrier position, you must take the Virtual Entry Assessment 474. The questions are designed to give the USPS a picture of the type of person you are. It is very useful in telling the USPS about your personality, your behavioral tendencies, your learning style, your values, ethics, and moral standards.
A job at the USPS is a position of trust. Employees of the USPS handle the personal mail and packages of millions of people. You should take the practice assessment well in advance in order to understand the types of questions you might be asked and the types of answers that are suggested.

Address Checking
Identifying errors in addresses is a key skill for postal workers. One of the main responsibilities of theirs is to make sure every piece of mail reaches its correct recipient. The address checking section will test your ability to compare two (2) lists of addresses quickly and accurately. The first address will show a “Correct Address” that contains addresses and ZIP codes, and the second address will show a “Address to be Corrected” address next to it, which contains addresses and ZIP Codes that could have errors. You will be tested on your speed & accuracy. There will be 5 levels for the address checking section:Novice – 10 Questions
Adv. Beginner – 15 Questions (8 Seconds per. Question w/ 80% Threshold)
Competent – 20 Questions (5.5 Seconds per. Question w/ 80% Threshold)
Proficient – 25 Questions (4 Seconds per. Question w/ 85% Threshold)
Expert – 30 Questions (3 Seconds per. Question w/ 90% Threshold)

Forms Completion
The forms completion section involves answering questions about specific information entered on to U.S.P.S. forms, such as Passport applications, Certificate of Bulk Mailing, and more. This will test your ability to identify the correct information needed to complete forms that are used daily by postal employees.
(Keep in mind, the forms on this simulator are NOT copies of official USPS forms.)
Novice – 10 Questions
Adv. Beginner – 15 Questions (7 minutes total per attempt w/ 80% Threshold)
Competent – 20 Questions (6 minutes total per attempt w/ 80% Threshold)
Proficient – 25 Questions (4 minutes 30 seconds total per attempt w/ 85% Threshold)
Expert – 30 Questions (4 minutes total per attempt w/ 90% Threshold)

Coding & Memory
Part of a postal worker's day-to-day duties will be handling packages and making sure they are set to their specific routes. With setting corresponding routes, workers must be precise on matching correct addresses. Keep in mind, the addresses will NOT include city, state, or zip-code. Coding also puts your ability to analyze sets of addresses into practice. You will be given sets of addresses with the ability to analyze which routes they correspond to.Novice – 10 Questions

CONGRATULATIONS!!! On making it to the comprehensive skill simulator! In this section, we are going to put the skills that it takes to be an efficient postal worker to the test. This comprehensive simulator will consist of questions from Address Checking, Forms Completion, & Coding.
